Baby Sea Turtle!

The final project for this short animation with dialogue had to be the easiest animation we have done in the entire semester! I worked with After Effects and had a fun time making the character move like a puppet by adding the different kinds of joints and positioning it in different areas. I thought this project was going to be really complicated, just because it included the dialogue structure and had to include the mouth movements, but when I was in that stage for dialogue it was actually easier than what I had expected. I keyframed the different kinds of mouths I needed whenever the sea turtle talked and that was all, very simple as you can see. The hardest part about this was making sure the whole body moved when I wanted it to move and being able to keep that direct eye contact with the audience. The footage in the background was found online and the voice-over is one of my friends that offered to help speak as a kid, so everything turned out well like I wanted it to come out t

Christmassssss!

The typography project was fun for me to do! I picked out a classic holiday song because the seasons are around the corner and I feel like the song lightens up everyone's mood no matter what they celebrate. Working with after effects, I felt more comfortable with the software overall and it was easier to do for the rotation and positions of all the titles and shape layers. For the majority of the ideas, I looked up online to see what I could do to give a sense of Christmas throughout the film and find those different items that make up the holidays. For the snow part, it was definitely something different to do because it is a new software for me and I was taught step by step on how to make it but it was nice to see that I could do different kinds of effects to make the short film even better. At the end of the day, it is the small details that I enjoyed doing the most.

Bouncing Ball Course!

This project was really helpful in playing around with after effects and getting more of an understanding of how the software actually works. I have used it before to see what it does but never went into detail to do a project on. I worked on this project in about two days so it did not take a lot of time as compared to the other projects we have done so far so it was very easy to make the project. The biggest challenge for me was to align the keyframes in the right order so it will speed up or slow down the ball whenever it bounced off the floor. The other challenge I faced was making sure the volume of the ball was the same along the course to make sure it did not get smaller or bigger as it bounced around. After a while, I had to look online for videos of balls to see how the speed of them reduce every time it hits another object and it helped me structure the way I had to make my balls volume as it went towards the exit.

Weak Spongebob!

The weight project has been the easiest assignment compared to all the previous ones we have done before. I found it easier to handle than the walk cycle because there were not as many movements that needed to be precise so it was better to move around and focus more on the facial expressions. For reference, I looked up model sheets for SpongeBob for his movement and facial expressions, as well as looking up videos of people at the gym lifting up weights. That got me more or less an idea of how heavy the object was and how to position the character correctly in order to show the facial expressions when it was time to pick up the weights. I changed the color pad to a yellow so Spongebob could be in a way colored but not colored completely. Adding Gary was a way to make the short film funny to emphasize how light the weight actually is. Even so that he was able to pick up the weight with his own eye and spongebob is just in shock throughout the whole occasion.

Bart Cycle!

For this animation, it seemed really easy at first but once I got into the details of all the in-betweens and making sure the movement was similar to the frame before and after, it did get a bit confusing on how to manage everything to look smooth. It was very helpful to have a reference sheet in the corner to go back and verify I was doing the correct position for that movement. I watched several walk videos to get more of an idea on how to do it. I never knew how complicated walk cycles are! When I see it on the shows, I have never noticed it but now that I have done it, I can imagine what the animators have to go through. Doing this cycle was fun overall and I would do more if I had time to do more walks to make sure they look smoother. Besides that, I have been really more tools in Harmony and it can be helpful later on for future projects.

Ballerina!

Rotoscope was a whole mission to accomplish! Working on this project took so much time, it was very fun but time-consuming when it came to redrawing the same frame over and over again to only make a few seconds out of it! I picked out a video of a ballerina dancing because the more movement the better it was for me but it took a lot of work. If I had more free time, I would definitely do more of these animations. The background was not as complicated as I thought because it did not move overall and I just had to slightly move the image but besides that, the main work was on the dancer. I painted her dress and made the lines sketchy around her dress for a unique style. The movie was not clear enough for the individual images so I had to assume what was going on in every frame and how to match it to the other frames before and after it. The onion section helped out greatly on those parts.

Up, Up, and Away!

For this short animation, my group came up with a more funny and unrealistic idea that we had in mind. We got inspired by the movie UP and of course Area 51! The animation is about a young boy who went to the park and wanted to get some balloons, but the balloon guy gave him more balloons than what he wanted, making him drift up into the sky. As he goes up to the sky he sees an alien spaceship and they have abducted him! Poor guy... As for the technical aspect of this project, it was definitely more tedious than the canon ball project because we had to think about every single movement the boy made from the walking to him getting a hold of the balloons. As well as the space part of the story where we had to give the aliens some kind of character as they moved along the space to get to him as they pass by Earth. A few moments later helped very much with the transition from him in the sky to space! The animation principle we used was more towards the appealing aspect because the char
